An interesting but rather common style of Confederate cap box, this reproduction is copied from several surviving originals made from disassembled British Ball Bags.  Imported into the Confederacy during the first couple years of the war as part of full sets of British army accoutrements, Ball Bags were considered superfluous, returned to the arsenal, and used as scrap leather.  Standard Confederate cap boxes made from them typically have a black-dyed waxed flesh leather flap exhibiting the awl holes from the Ball Bag, and often an Isaac and Campbell stamp on the interior.  These reproductions from Merrick's Custom Leather will feature real waxed flesh leather and a stamp that matches the original perfectly.
