Turned by the LR's own Mike Moore, these buttons are excellent copies of the coat-size wood buttons made by J. & G. Gibson under contract to the Quartermaster's Department in Richmond. With over 13 million being delivered between October 1862 and the last days of the war, Gibson's buttons were among the most common used on Richmond clothing--photos of Gettysburg casualties show them worn on jeans Richmond jackets, and soldiers wore kersey jackets with the same wooden buttons home from Appomattox.
